Abstract: Until the early 2000s, pharmaceutical laboratories left the distribution of medicine to wholesalers. Growing uncertainty in their supply chains, however, has forced them to develop logistical alliances. Indeed, the growth of extended enterprises in the pharmaceutical industry has become palpable. This paper shows that certain wholesalers have taken it upon themselves to introduce supply chain management practices into their services, with the goal of maintaining a strong presence within the drug supply chain.
